More dog treats!

Parsley is known to reduce bad breath and though I love our dog, he sure does have bad breath sometimes!

Ingredients:
1/4 cup fresh parsley
1 apple
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 cup whole wheat flour

Directions:
Slice apple and chop finely in a blender.
Mix apple, parsley, peanut butter and flour in a bowl
(I find it best to use my hands).
Add more flour is the dough is too sticky.
Roll out down on a floured surface.
Cut out cookie shapes.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

Peanut Butter & Apple Dog Treats

The dog loved his treats, so I decided to make some more. This time I tried peanut butter and apple treats.

Ingredients:
1 apple
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Cut the apple and blend in the food processor
Put apple and peanut butter in a bowl
Mix using a mixer while adding the flour
(if you don't have a mixer, you can use a fork or your hands)
Cool in the fridge for ~30 min (makes it easier to handle)
Roll the dough out to aout 1/2 inch
Cut with cookie cutter
Place on a cookie sheet
Bake for 40 min

We needed some round treats to put in Kyle's ball, so we also rolled some with our hands (put some flour on your hands to avoid sticky dough)

Homemade Dog Treats

A few weeks ago we watched an episode of the Lazy Environmentalist where Josh visited a Pet Groomer. During the episode, he brought our attention to the ingredients of dog treats. We checked the ingredients of our dog's treats and were shocked to see a long list of ingredients of which we did not recognize half! At that moment, we decided to only purchases organic treats and I became determined to make my own healthy dog treats.

I searched online for recipes, but many of them had too many ingredients or were a little more complicated then I wanted, so I decided to experiment on my own. For Christmas I made some super simple organic treats, which the dog went crazy about!

Home-made Dog Treats

Ingredients:
1 large carrot
1 apple
2 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
~1/2 cup unbleached flour
1 tablespoon peanut oil

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Finely chop apple and carrot
Mix with whole wheat flour, 1/4 cup of flour and peanut oil in a bowl
If dough is sticky add up to 1/4 cup flour
Roll out on a floured surface
Use cookie cutter to cut out bones
Place treats on a lightly greased cookie tray and bake for 40 minutes

Tips:
*Use a food processor to chop the apple and carrots
*Use a fork or your hand to mix the dough
*Adjust the amount of unbleached flour based on size of the apple and carrot
*Use cookie cutters or a knife to shape the cookies
*To ensure even coloring, flip the treats after ~30 min in the oven
